Ranch Elsie

Ranch Elsie

My name is Stephen Hicks, and I live on a quant mountain road in Colorado named Ranch Elsie. I'm surrounded by sustainable living. In the distance I can hear the hilarious bleating of goats, quacks of ducks, and various chicken babble. It inspired me to do more for myself and family, living off my land and create a sustainable way of eating. This spring I plan on making my own chicken coup for about 5 chickens, and leaving room for more in the future. I've also turned my attention to the world of hydroponics. Colorado has a dry climate, which is an understatement, and I live above 7,000ft in elevation. Watering the tarnished soil here seems wasteful, so I've rigged up a system. Rain water from the garage gutters will be diverted into a large water tank. There is a hose system hooked to the bottom of the water tank that distributes water into the soil and snakes it's way down my sloped garden. I'm hoping this will be enough to not have to tap into the well water.

But I've also came to another conclusion; why not use hydroponics? I'm designing my own systems, three variants. One is a tower that will fit well inside a corner of my house that receives a lot of direct sunlight. The other will be a horizontal multilayered system that will go outside in a greenhouse. And the last is a aquaponic system that will incorporate a fish tank. This design I want to sell with the public, and I'm excited to document that journey and share with you.

For now, I offer the most cost effective garden products I've sourced across the internet from various suppliers that I believe in. Keep an eye out for my own products which will be filling the stock as soon as they come.
